The character of Cyan has been rewritten most extensively of all, in order to present a consistent and believable representation of archaic speech. But insofar as it can be done, this project aims to represent the intentions of the game’s designers as closely as possible, while sounding as though the text had originated in English in the first place. Given its status as a popular and well-established game, and the necessary compromises involved in translating a complex work of art between two starkly different languages and cultures, it would be somewhat misleading to claim that any one translation of the script for Final Fantasy VI could be considered completely definitive in every respect. Some of the memorable ‘flavor text’ from the SNES version has been retained, but only in cases where the meaning of the story was unaffected by the difference in wording. The goal of this rewrite is to strip away the confusion that has surrounded the translation of this game, yielding a version that is faithful to the meaning of the Japanese script in all of its story and character details. The initial SNES release had a great many translation errors, and while later versions have sought to correct these problems, they often introduced new inaccuracies and other oddities into the text. The game’s dialog has been extensively rewritten in order to accurately convey the meaning of the original Japanese, with particular emphasis placed on being readable and natural in English. * It is now possible to rare steal a Cat Hood from a Pug.This is a large-scale rewrite of the script for Final Fantasy VI, heavily based on the live translation stream featured on the Legends of Localization website. You can buy one set of Marvel Shoes for 50000 GP, and as many Hero Rings as you would like for 10000 GP. * The Auction House in the World of Ruin has better items. * Banon's Chocobo Riding sprite was edited by SilentEnigma to include more consistent shading. * A few small typos were fixed as they were reported. * Desperation attacks now have a 1 in 8 chance of occurring, as they should. * There was 1 tile in the Doma Military Camp that could cause your character to get stuck. * All single-enemy formations have had "Pincer Attack" disabled. The NPCs have been shifted around so that if an NPC needs to be despawned, it is an NPC of little consequence. * Depending on your party makeup, the Fanatics' Tower Roof had a despawned NPC (The Magimaster), which could lead to a softlock. * Setzer's Letter in Owzer's respawned, causing a softlock if you read it without Locke and Celes in your party. Thanks to a herculean effort involving Subtraction, Gi Nattak, Serity, Seibaby, Bropedio, SirNewtonFig, and especially C-Dude, this bug has been resolved. This was discovered to actually be a bug in the vanilla game that had a very low chance of occurring. The second was that using Tools 12 or more times in a battle could cause the item buffer to overflow, adding garbage items to your inventory, and causing any Tools used after that (even breakable tools) to be removed from your inventory. The first was that their actual rate of breakage was 1 in 8. It never stops feeling like the Final Fantasy 6 you know and love. Every change is made in service to its characters, and the core of the game remains the same. There is no difficulty rebalancing, no retranslation, no graphical changes, and only a handful of spells and items renamed. Even with all of those changes listed, Divergent Paths has become somewhat noteworthy not for its changes, but for its restraint. Over 2 dozen hackers are listed in the credits of the manual for contributions to this project. You can even recruit crew members to the Falcon! There are new spells, new espers, new abilities, a reduced encounter rate, dummied content restored, and more. A secret 16th character has been added too. Instead of replacing an existing character, Leo is added as a 15th fully-playable character. There are more edits than just storyline modifications though. In addition, every named character receives an end to their story arc, both main characters and side characters. Leo has been repurposed from a guest to a main character, with a full character arc, sidequests, and even his own musical theme. At it’s heart, it is a storyline modification, re-arranging content, re-purposing content, and sometimes adding new content in order to make the game flow more naturally. Final Fantasy VI: Divergent Paths is a complete modification of Final Fantasy 6 for the SNES.
